'Peg' is Nerina Pallot's take on Steeley Dan's 1977 hit of the same name and the third single to be released from her 'Fires' album. It could be taken straight from the soundtrack of any summer chick flick. Its funky, breezy and upbeat, and the heart felt-pop vocals prove no challenge for Pallot's classily trained voice.
The singer missed out on the Best British Female award at the Brits in January and was beaten to an Ivor Novello by Amy Winehouse but has wooed punters and critics alike with her UK tour. The track is less acoustic than much of the album, opting instead for an R&B vibe mixing 70s guitars with melodic piano and superb percussion.
If you are puzzled by why it sounds so familiar but too young to remember the original then its time to dig out your copy of De La Soul’s 'Eye Know'.
'Peg' works well as a summer single but is probably not the best demonstration of Pallot's varied of talents.
