Koop Islands is wonderfully intricate, it possesses a smokes screen of
blue movies and Parisian inspired jazz fingers. But at UK Music this
isn’t an album we’d whip out at the staff Christmas party. No, it’s far
too literally Jazz for that, and you’d need to swing in that direct
uncontrollably, or be a street performer littering the streets of
convent garden to whole heartedly like Koop – “yes!”.
However, if you were to make a montage of romantic video shots: you
avec fella cruising through rolling hills, playing on the navy damp
beach or perhaps sharing an espresso mocha lotta in some anti-Starbucks
then this dreamy turge would accompany said montage quite nicely.
It moves into cutesy territory with ‘Come To me’ with it’s melancholy
trumpet solo, 4/4 beat and angelic oooh backing vocals. Imagine Gnarls
Barkly and the Pipettes having a jam.
A modern album that encompasses swing and jazz in quite good shocker.
Andy William and Jazz noodlings have collided in quite pleasant
shocker. But, nevertheless, still quite forgettable.
