Following the amazing success of The Soul Sessions, Mind, Body & Soul is the first album of original material from 17-year-old . By now you should all be aware that Joss is not a larger than life, black America singer, but in fact she is a petit, white youngster who hails from Devon.
The selection of tracks that make up this album are completely different from her first. This time around has co-written all of the tracks which allows her to add her own dose of attitude. As we are used to her covering old soul classics, this does come as a slight relief, even though her song writing skills do not surpass her amazing vocal range.
The one thing that draws me to is her excellent delivery. Breath taking in her approach, her ability to hold a tune like the universally great soul legends will over shadow her slightly under developed lyrical ability. When you hear tracks such as ‘Security' and the slightly ska influenced ‘Less is more' you will understand my stance. However, the one track to watch out for, as I know will have to be a future release is the soul ballad ‘Jet Lag'
The potential that Joss has is undeniably vast - it is hard to see how her voice can mature as it is already developed beyond what could be expected of her years and when her song writing catches up she will have the world at her feet.
