This is a song that will make you want to move. It’s the kind of music you hear in old films where everyone is doing the jive, or the gitterbug, or some other funkily named set of moves and somehow every white man can dance. Sadly my dancing skills and sense of rhythm leave a lot to be desired but the first time I heard this I couldn’t help give my booty a little wiggle and having a dance round my bedroom...
Frank and Co claim to be predominantly influenced by vintage 60s rock vinyls but the sounds of both the 50s and the 70s seem to be lurking in the background. It’s a weird mix of funk, Rockabilly, Freak beat and Hammond Groove. I admit that doesn’t sound too appealing but believe me you will be impressed. There are currently eight active members of FPE (as us in the know like to call them) and if you ever get the chance to see them live take it – its not often you get to see such a range of instruments on the same stage. Past set ups include a mix of guitars, bass, vocals, drums, samplers, Hammonds, Rhodes, organs and the odd laptop here and there. This is the kind of song that makes you smile and puts a bounce in your step. Be warned though – when it comes on your ipod and you sit there beaming away, tapping you foot on the way to work don’t come complaining to me when everyone on the tube thinks you crazy and sits there staring.
