From Amy's debut album Frank, "In my bed" is Amy's latest offering and what a treat it is. Amy's gravely voice, her almost freakish appearance and honest approach to writing lyrics have already caused a commotion. The 20 year old hailing from North London, is one of the few artists who have the ability to write, sing and deliver songs in a fashion that can only develop over time. She defies traditional constraints associated with being an artist and throws caution to the wind to come up trumps with "In my bed."
Using Nas' 'Made you Look' as a backing track combined with an array of saxes, electric guitar, flutes and of course Amy's distinct voice and lyrics, it's a musical feast. On paper it's a lot of ingredients. But listening and tasting the dish, Amy has served it is another splendid track, which is difficult to tire from as there is another instrument or melody that is equally infectious to pick from. Her lyrics are of course her strength and her delivery is equally as powerful but the bridge of the song lift the track to another level almost apocalyptic and then boom into the chorus. I am a fan of Amy's and undoubtedly I am biased but, listening to so many artists whose lyrics come across hollow, melodies that are formulaic, Amy is always a welcome retreat. So much so, that I almost want her to remain a retreat for fellow artists and musical lovers who appreciate a talent that is quite rightly so rare.
"In my bed" has already received a lot of airplay on Radio 1, in particular on the Rhythm Nation, testimony to her growing universal and cross over appeal which will undoubtedly translate into trans-Atlantic success and triumph in the eminent future.
