Love Will Come Through is a new single from that actually pre-dates the album, 12 Memories, that it features on. Originally a theme for the film Moonlight Mile, fans have had to wait 2 years to hear it on an album. Till now the song has only been available on the Internet. The band took the opportunity to support the Spinal Injuries Association, making it downloadable from their site with donations to the charity. It's a cause the band support , member Neil Primrose having received spinal injuries during a tour in 2002.
The melody of the song is instantly recognizable, it's a lilting, slow carousel of a tune, one quite at odds with the lyrics of the piece at times. The words, despite the up beat chorus, can be described as pretty gloomy. Fran Healy sings them in a breathless rolling style, with backing vocals of a similar vein.
But the contrast between the easy rolling , almost yearning vocals and the beautiful acoustic ‘finger picking' is what makes the song stand out. Andy Dunlop ( guitarist) has created an effect that effectively frames the rest of the song. It's a simple arrangement, but works in picking up the song, creating a languid peaceful mood that doesn't become boring. Love Will Come Through is the kind of song that reminds you of warm autumn days, and best listened to when just chilling out. It's such a signature that you will have heard it used in several commercials, mostly for banks.
Love Will Come Through has been hailed by one writer, ‘as one of the best things have ever recorded'. While that may not be true, it's a nice song. With the warm feelings it evokes, it's easy to see why it was chosen as the theme for a love story. And with it being used in so many adverts, it'll certainly be one of most heard pieces for a while to come. Not a great song, but an enjoyable one, a must for any fan.
