The Night Marchers - See You In Magic
‘See You In Magic’ is the new offering from underground renaissance man John ‘Speedo’ Reis, formerly of ‘Rocket From The Crypt’ and ‘Hot Snakes’. As expected from a man with his CV, much of the music is straight-ahead, foot to the floor punk-rock. Opening track ‘And I keep Holding On’ wraps a chiming, eastern guitar motif around a power-pop chorus. While a ramshackle, train-rattling rhythmic abandon is evident in much of the instrumentation. British punk and pop references are abound, particularly in the Joe Strummer-like vocals, and ‘Clash’ and ‘Who’ sensibilities respectively. ’Open Your Legs’ meanwhile is a skiffily, rockabilly affair straight from the heartland of Sun Studios. Which is immediately proceeded by the Costello-esque, highlight ’Panther In Crime’ , well stating it’s merits for a second spinning. Final track ’We’re Goin’ Down’ shares a similarity with early ’Oasis’ tracks such as ’She’s Electric’ and is as such, all the better. To sum up ’See You In Magic’ is a dynamic, energetic affair, which is sure to find it’s own place amongst ‘Reis’ fans
