On ‘Cheap and Cheerful’ The Kills offer up more rock ‘n of the play it loud and stamp along sort, this time taken from their new album ‘Midnight Boom’. It’s a mixture of hand claps, snappy-bass and what sounds like snare drum solos of the marching band sort. Production duties went to Spank Rock’s Armani XXXchange and his lo-fi beats provide a suitable backing for Alison Mosshart’s robotic vocals.
Those vocals are distinctly bored sounding yet somehow manage to draw you in nevertheless. Its simple yet effective, and another demonstration that the two-piece boy/girl duo is far from dead.
The video is directed by Sophie Muller.
