Two infectiously catchy electro pop albums, numerous Mighty Boosh appearances and huge sex appeal; yes Robots In Disguise should be much bigger than they are. They unfortunately seemed to implode amongst the ‘new rave’ craze but anyone that crosses paths with this eccentric duo will eventually grow to love them. “We’re In The Music Biz” is their third studio album and it picks up where they left off but with a tinge of resentment to the music industry as depicted in the title track, it’s delivered with the kind of wit and melody that reminds you of an early Blur.
Right from the off the album has slightly fewer electronics and more guitar which makes for a congregation of more balanced and compact songs. Songs like “The Tears” which is a Killers esque tune with wiry synths and a solid bass, it’s a welcome new direction for the band. The album’s finest moment however comes in the form of “The Sex Has Made Me Stupid,” the perfect synth laden electro pop pleasure. Although some of it’s a tad predictable it’s still captivating and keeps you safe in the knowledge that RID are one of the most consistently good bands to come out of the UK in years.
