Heavyweight Champion Of The World

This record is so sick, it would make the terminally ill look like they could tap dance. On one hand we have an infectious and funky call to arms anthem by sometime Artic Monkey associate from Sheffield – being hailed, I read here, as the ‘don’ of the Sheffield music scene. Then it strikes you like the predictability of a bad weathered English summer – this pangs of unoriginality lyrically and makes Jon ‘Reverend’ McClure’ come across like a grade A gobsite (I’m including some less than amazing interview insights with the man here). It’s a head fuck. Basically it’s good and catchy as a cold, but you just don’t want to like it. Period.
It concentrates to much on the banality of 21st century existence, it peddles cliché after cliché, but what it lacks in unoriginality, it makes up for in balls. Inevitably, you will wake up singing this track, then remember you have to pay the electricity bill.
