Music Reviews Artist: Murder by DeathTitle: Like The Exorcist But More BreakdancingLabel: EyeballWebsite: http://www.murderbydeath.com
'Like The Exorcist But More Breakdancing' is an album that sounds like an album you would expect to come from a band with a name like Murder by Death. It is slightly haunting, very chilling and mysteriously endearing, at least at times.
It is atmospheric music of the sort that you could easily imagine popping up in the soundtrack of a grainy, gritty British horror flick. For those of you trying to block out the sunshine and remind yourselves of the gloom and pain of winter this is a good place to turn. The lyrics tell of misery and the vocals are pained.
The Indiana rockers have been compared to Cold Play, Radiohead and Johnny Cash but reside in a different league. The music is powered by gloomy basslines but given a certain grace through the beautiful sound of Sarah Balliet's cello.
Album highlights include 'Flamencos Fuck In Easy' where the vocals are given room to breathe and the delicate piano melody develops into the driving force behind the track. The Smashing Pumpkin like guitars of 'Intergalactic Menopause' is another highpoint.
'Like The Exorcist But More Breakdancing' is a re-issue following the success of the 'Bocca Al Lipo' Lp.
