DIOY,Y? are one of the latest in a long line of bands to emerge from of the 2007 new rave boom. So what else is new? Well they’ve got the trendy zeitgeist of the Klaxons coupled with the imagination and robotics of Daft Punk but is it enough to make this debut stand up and be counted amongst the ever growing sub genres of indie? To put it plain and simple, it does. “You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into” is an appropriate title for this album which crams in various influences that this Reading lot have come across. Take album opener “Battle Royale” which uses dialogue from the Japanese film of the same name before it proceeds into an orgy of electro dynamism. Not the best song on the album though compared to the likes of the infectious robo-pop anthem “We Are Rockstars” or the delightful synth laiden “Dawn Of The Dead.” The latter sounding like a charming, suburban, Killers-esque prom soundtrack. There are a couple predictable of humdrum moments but from 60ft lesbian octopuses to weird scientists this album will have you doing the robot and reaching for the nearest vocoder.
