By starting with a jingly guitar riff reminiscent of Eternal’s Pure Shores, and continuing with softly sung pleasantries of wanting and needing some kind of love, Zeenar Gulzar hints at some kind of talent. It sounds ok to start with. But then the sugariness of the lyrics becomes over-bearing, the rhymes so trite, and the ever-repeating riff just becomes annoying. Imagine how Gordon Ramsey would feel if, having selected the finest ingredients for a soufflé, all ready for preparation, he went for a slash and returned to find someone had served it up in a bap with ketchup. Apparently her debut album has been delayed by her contracting viral meningitis twice, which sounds like an interesting story – if only the music was as interesting. So near, and yet so far. Rating: 2/5
