A couple more roast potatoes please. No Carrots thanks. is the sound of your sunday Lunch in a village pub somewhere in a picturesque village with a strange, yet quaint name like Downy Hair in the English countryside. The smell of a freshly cut cricket pitch resounds in your nostrils while resounds in your ears, pumped out from the Horse and Pea's antiquated sound system, doing its level best not to offend you in any way, put you off your meal or start an argument/brawl with one of the ruddy cheeked village locals.
A double CD collection of non offensive tracks spanning the last 40 years of popular music that will put a summer spring in your step and take you away from the grim reality of a pissy wet summer in a high rise in Birmingham. The Corrs are here. Westlife are here. The Bluebells are Young At Heart, The Boo Radleys say Wake Up Boo. The Beach Boys, Frankie Valli , Simon and Garfunkel ‘and many many more'.
Interesting to hear The Monkees ‘A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You' rather than ‘Last Train To Clarksville' and always nice to hear ‘Ready Or Not Here I Come' by The Delfonics.
Although a fantastic record, En Vogue's ‘My Lovin' doesn't instantly strike me as a summer classic. Nor does East 17's ‘Stay Another Day' which always reminds me of winter as it was an Xmas Number One. Still, I suppose they do stay true to the agenda of ‘greatest vocal groups of all time.' Although can we really confine East 17 to such a category ?
