So this would be the lucky lass who got herself signed to a major record label after broadcasting a series of live gigs from her basement. Sandi Thom’s story is a remarkable one and one that demonstrates the influence the internet has on the music industry. Her first single I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker entered the charts at number two, but the real test will be with the release of her debut album Smile… it Confuses People. In other words, now that people know of her, are they willing to put their money where their mouth is?
On the first couple of listens, it would worrying appear that I Wish I.. is the track that truly stands out. Whilst the likes of Lonely Girl take on soul influences and showcase her powerful voice they are lacking in imagination and edginess. You can expect to hear this album played in all good coffee shops.
