Norwegian singer-songwriter has apparently been making music for quite some time alas sadly has remained relatively unknown until Mercury Records recognised the capabilities of this tented young man and signed him.
Post’s style is varied and yet accomplished. With well-known producer Mike Hedges twiddling all the right knobs, this is a great debut which truly makes Post stand out amongst the current crop of mediocre singer-songwriters. Opening track ‘There’s One Thing’ is perhaps the strongest, with its relaxed tempo and a rousing chorus acting like a blank canvas upon which Post paints his assertive but controlled voice. Elsewhere, ‘High Tide’ is a ballad that undoubtedly will transfer to an acoustic live performance that’ll have fans rendered putty in Post’s hands. The track which follows, ‘More and More’ is a more insistent and poppy number with a subtle rock sensibility which acts as a nice showcase for the depth of Post’s voice. The other stand out is ‘Newborn’, a track with a relatively fast pace and some quirky sounds which work well with its uplifting chorus and a rocky guitar solo. The people who will be buying Post’s records aren’t teenage pop-pickers. They are twenty and thirty-somethings with a more refined taste for intelligent, meaningful popular music that is well produced without a gimmick in sight. Fans of Katie Melua, Jamie Cullum and so on will like this, I guarantee it. Rating: 4/5
