This double A-side ‘Please Please/Don’t Stop Me Now’ is McFly’s contribution to Sport Relief and is the official single for the BBC’s charity campaign.
It abounds with the usual fast and furious sound we have come to expect from McFly but arguably offers little else. ‘Please Please’ is the theme tune to Brit-flick ‘Just My Luck’ which the band star in as themselves; it is vaguely reminiscent of a young Green Day but fails to offer anything new.
‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ is a fun song and meant to encapsulate some of the enthusiasm behind Sports Relief, which it does well; it also makes Freddy Mercury’s vocal superiority all too clear. This is a single that will be eagerly received by those already converted to the McFly cause; while it may not gain them any new fans it is unlikely to lose them any either.
