Forever youthful, but Lulu has been around for five decades. A Little Soul In Your Heart, as the title vaguely suggests, is a collection of soul classic and is overseen by showbiz pal and occasional tantrum thrower Sir Elton John.
The problem with doing a whole album of covers, well there are several of them actually, is that A) it can come across as dangerously karaoke. You might as well be the woman at the bar screeching ‘I will survive!’ at the top of your lungs. And B) you know it’s never going to be as good as the original. Still at least Lulu knows how to belt them out and there’s a good choice of classics as well, from the kooky The Shoop Shoop Song, as covered by Cher many moons ago, to Otis Reding’s Try A Little Tenderness.
