The spotlight hits the stage, informing us of the arrival of Lily Allen.
She skipped on stage with her trademark summer dress and trainers. A huge cheer from the Astoria crowd and assisted by her four piece band, she started with her latest tune LDN which sounded amazingly good live.
Even though the set was expected to be quite short the highlight of the night was the ‘Nan you’re a window shopper’ track. Here she showed another side to her lyrical skills, taking the mick of her grandmother, and all round the 50 cent beat worked for her.
Also reinventing Keane's 'Everybody's Changing' proved that she has got quite good vocal abilities and the reggae complemented it. For someone who only recently started performing live, she has come out of her shell.
At one point she hurled abuse back at one of the members of the crowd after they shouted something offensive at her. Overall she engaged well with the audience, also having a few cigarettes while performing added to the realness.
Tracks that stood out were ‘Shame for You’, ‘Unwanted Attention’ and ‘Little Things’. Smile got the biggest cheer of the night and even got me singing along, a sign that this track will be around for a while.
Lily Allen at Astoria was quite interesting, I can safely this lady is talented and not just another studio artist, while on stage there was something missing but in time she will be able to perfect herself as a performer.
