Feel good femme pop rock from the Liverpool born Laura Critchley.
Laura Critchley’s comfort zone is quite clearly, and very firmly, in the middle of the road. She cites Cheryl Crow and Karen Carpenter as influences, even writing the track ‘Superstar’ especially for Karen; her sound is one of female fronted pop rock. She is currently the golden girl of BBC Radio 2’s Terry Wogan and recorded three tracks in Robbie William’s home studio - not bad for a former bank clerk from the Wirral.
‘Sometimes I’ is full of the type of music mum and dad would like. Laura has a good voice with just a hint of huskiness and it combines well with the rock-lite backings. Lyrics like “I’m a girl next door but I wanted more” will almost certainly get people singing along.
The single ‘Sometimes I’ was released in May, with a rather confusing but quite enjoyable video, and the album follows in November.
For those interested in the latest happening in Laura’s life she been blogging her adventures in pop land for Liverpool.com and Lauracritchley.com; you can read everything from how a set of metal shutters knocked her out back stage in Bradford to what Ray Quinn is really like.
