After a much publicised battle with breast cancer, Kylie has returned to the stage to continue where she left off with the "Showgirl" World Tour. This is Kylie's first ever live album, a double CD recorded in her home town of Melbourne in order to celebrate her return.
Live albums are notoriously difficult to make a success and only a few manage to turn a concert into a classic. Although there is nothing wrong with this album, far from it actually, I still doubt that this will be anything more than a collecter's item for her avid fans.
I saw her last year and this CD does manage to capture the highlights of a great show. The intros and remixes are intriguing and manage to liven up old hits - especially "The Loco-motion" which has been made to sound more appropriate for a burlesque house then Top of the Pops.
More importantly Kylie proves that although she's no Whitney, she can sing and sing well. But if you haven't seen the show it's unfortunate because you can't see the amazing choreography and beautifully camp outfits. Her duet with Bono is an obvious highlight as he adds some much needed gravitas to Robbie's "Kids".
A cool compilation of a great pop show, but if you want the full experience your better off waiting for the DVD.
