Music Reviews Artist: Just JackTitle: Writer's Block
The fourth song to be released from Jack Allsopp’s top ten sophomore album ‘Overtones’ features all the aspects you’d expect from who NME calls “the loved up street laureate”. Some put this garage rapper amongst The Streets and Dizzee Rascal but in reality he’s much more like Jamiroquai and Lily Allen if “Writer’s Block” is what you’re gonna go on.
The smooth, electro sound over a sly groove is lovely and matched with his irrepressible lyrics (I’m living in the past/My clock’s an hour fast/Should really go and make a coffee but I can’t be arsed.) , spoken word delivery it’s impossible not to like. In fact it’s so good that “Overtones” has made my “Must Have Albums” list; a perfect pop single.
