Beauty lies in simplicity. Hence the cliché. Featuring the chorus “If you don´t give my football back I´m gonna get my dad on you, I only kicked it over the fence and broke a silly gnome or two” and little else, ´Eanie Meany´ represents one of life´s simple pleasures. That it emanates from the sharp mind of Davyhulme´s very own pop laureate Jim Noir comes as little shock. What is more surprising is that adidas chose it to soundtrack their biggest-ever ad campaign. There´s still something bizarre about watching the likes of David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane showcasing their skills to Noir´s homemade confection. With the World Cup all but over, My Dad, as in the record company and not my actual father, can hardly be accused of cashing in on Germany 2006. Although you would have heard ´Eanie Meany´ for most of the summer, it´s a song you´ll never tire of listening to. Altogether now, ´If you don´t give me my football back…”
