Hot Chip have come a long way since 2004. From neo soul nobodies to electro pop pioneers they certainly enhanced the ideology that geeks can be cool too. “Made In The Dark” arrives as Hot Chip are at their most popular since that song that gets played ‘Over and Over’ on indie dancefloors. Talks of Kylie collaborations don’t hurt either. They’ve taken much more of a pop stance with this album which well isn’t really a good thing because most of the songs seem to run out of steam and the stripped down ballads of “Whistle For Will” and “In The Privacy Of Our Love” lack sensation.
The albums saving graces however come in the form of the energetic, rockier “Hold On” and the guaranteed floor filler “Ready For The Floor,” exactly the kind of songs that remind you why you were first drawn to this band two years ago. It was always going to be a difficult task for Hot Chip to top their last album “The Warning,” an electro pop masterpiece, but they’re still just about on top of their game and no one fills the genre as good as they do.
