While it seems to be the general consensus that Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse et al are taking pop to new and exiciting levels by dropping their H's and talking about getting pissed all the time, it's artists like Candie Payne – who have the guts to step outside of what's currently 'in' – that are truly the brave ones.
On the title track, Candie (Liverpool born and New York raised), combines Dusty Springfield's sultry brass with Nico's nightmarish eloquence over what could easily be the theme song to a particularly dark James Bond film.
The rest of the album is equally bold and varied; on 'By Tomorrow', the frantic beat is countered perfectly by Candie's beautifully serene voice, and 'A Different You' is brilliantly refreshing and – for a 'pop' record – admirably sparse.
'I Wish I Could Have Loved You More' is a truly diverse and thoroughly enjoyable pop album, and one that refuses to follow in the footsteps of modern trends.
