The fifth album from Sparklehorse is a spectacular collection of intricate and magical new tracks. The enchanting collection of songs were recorded alone by Sparklehorse main-man Mark Linkous in his Static King Studios in North Carolina. However, a wide and informed number of collaborators popped up along the way: Dangermouse, Tom Waits, Johnny Hot and Sophie Michalitsianos.
The breathy album opening ‘Don’t Take My Sunshine Away’, has a classic woozy 60s feel to it, and is apt as the end of summer falls upon us.
‘See The Lights’ builds on the dreamy Beatle soundscape that floats along within the record but adds some interesting turns with plods of minor keys.
A dreamy, protective film encapsulates and protects the record, whilst never leaking the mystery of Sparklehorse. This is a delicate, beautiful, warm album, that oozes emotional sincerity and classic song writing.
