It’s been a couple of years, but Simple Kid finally
returns with his follow up to the critically acclaimed SK 1 album -which is
cunningly titled SK 2. But while Ciaran McFeely, who likes to go under the
moniker of Simple Kid, is a singer songwriter like so many others out there
are, but this is no singer songwriter type of record.
There’s so much more to this album than one man and
his guitar. Sure he’s prone to conveying his vulnerabilities, which songwriters
love doing, but his observations can be quite endearing rather than self pitying
except perhaps on Love’s An Enigma (Pt 2) where the loser in love complains
about a girl who’s as ‘real as fake tan’.
Self Help Book is a indication of his sense of humour, pointing out the
obvious, “If you get drunk tonight, you’re gonna fall down” being one of them. Fabulously quirky.
