It can't of been hard for Mexican Institute of Sound to get signed; it is in fact the one man project of EMI Mexico label boss Camilo Lara, boasts one of the coolest names around and pumps out some pretty fine music.
The gloriously titled 'Mejico Maxico' is infectiously catchy (in the cool not crass way) and is a dubby mix of electro, cumbia and cha cha cha pasted together with an extensive palette of samples.
Latin lounge is the label MIS has attracted but his sound has more depth than that; its lounge in the laid-back sense but has enough soul to keep you bouncing along. It strangely manages to be nostalgic and futuristic at the same time; 'Cyber Mambo' mixes spacey samples and old fashion brass while 'Lenin y McArthur' is an off kilter reworking of 'Norwegian Wood'.
Welcome to the past and future sounds of Mexico City.
