After the flawless ‘Crosses’ single Jose Gonzalez continues his acoustic mission with a re-working of pop icon Kylie Minogue’s ‘Hand On Your Heart’. Jose adds an alternative dimension to this slightly odd choice of cover, but at the same time never quite escapes the Stock, Aitken and Waterman mark that is forever stamped over this late 80’s classic.
Lets not get over excited and hail this a work of art like the time Jamie Cullum covered Pharrell’s ‘Beautiful’ track, because really this is the sort of thing your mate who is a little handy with the guitar strums out as a party piece to impress your girlfriends single friend.
In the words of The Pretenders, don’t get me wrong! This is good but you can’t help feeling that it was strummed out in one take after a few bevy’s! For a more authentic piece of Jose move swiftly onto ‘Down the Hillside’ and Sensing Owls’ (tracks 2 & 3 on the single).
