An American songstress in London, Dawn Kinnard is an addition to the growing female vocal army enlisted to invade 2008 this summer. Originally from Tennessee, daughter of a Baptist preacher and expected to make an impact in England before America. Sounds like the Kings Of Leon success story doesn’t it. With that said though, after one listen of this album you don’t get the feeling that this is going to be that. “The Courtesy Fall” is packed with chilled out intimate moments to make it a pleasant listening experience for middle aged women but this debut has the grandiose shadow of Regina Spektor hovering all over it. Nothing wrong with having heavy influences but when you can’t find your own voice that’s where things go wrong and for this album that’s pretty much what happens. There are couple moments of character in songs such as the throbbing bass line and atmospheric string section in “Stop And Start” and the majestic soulful duet, with Jason Mraz, “Clear The Way,” but the whole album lacks overall individuality and sensation.
