Tucson collective Calexico release their seventh album Garden Ruin. Formed in 1996, they’re now a decade old and probably wondering where the hell all that time has gone.
There’s bits of everything here from jazz, folk to country and anything else they can think of. There’s a huge contrast for example between the intimacy and rawness of Cruel and the grandiose All Systems Red. Roka (Danza De La Muerte) has vibrant Latin guitars while Bisbee is American country. Whatever the style, or influence, its always melodic and pleasant to listen to even if some songs are more memorable than ever. So there really is a mixture of everything for everyone.
