Well, what do you say about an artist no longer with us who has a song released called
Slogans upon which he bemoans the existence, predictably, of “slogans” scrawled on the streets: “No more sweet-talk / From the hypocrites...”
It’s almost some sort of so-obvious-they’ve-got-away-with-it double irony. Quite how it was decided it was in ’s interests to release and re-release his material is beyond me. Dubbed “a celebration” by the people peddling this stuff to the masses, it’s plain to anyone with an ounce of acumen that this is a snide money-grabbing attempt. As much as I like Marley (who doesn’t?) it’s just tricky to take the whole business of a series (just in time for Christmas I hasten to add) of new releases seriously.
I do not need to tell you what sounds like. But I want to close by saying that the re-release endeavour has a few slogans of its own if you scratch below the surface. What would good ol’ Bob have to say about that?
