Brooklyn trio aka Aaron Warren, Bjourn Copeland and Eric Copeland, are what can be called a ‘noise band’ and on hearing their latest album Broken Ear Record, their third one in total, its one message that is definitely being put across.
What is meant by ‘noise’ as opposed to music is that there seems to be desire here to mix together a whole bunch of different sounds that make up anything but a tune. Its forty minutes of mayhem and quite frankly bewilderment for the listener. But then who said anything was supposed to make sense. If the world was supposed to make sense then, well let’s just say that things would be a lot better. The point is that despite the hedonistic electro beats of opener Snarly Now, at the end of the day Broken Ear Record is just a collection of distorted noise which presumably is meant to challenge the listener in some way. It’s certainly challenge to remember of the tracks following the first one, but that’s because there’s so much going on and way too much information to have to remember. Broken Ear Record is probably an album that will be appreciated by some and loathed others.
