After a three year hiatus, is back to spread her southern hummingbird wings once more. This long overdue second effort entitled “It’s me again” invites us into a new chapter in the songbird’s life and I hope you are ready. Her debut is undoubtedly one of the best, yet underrated albums of the last decade and this looks set to follow that status. Kicking off the classy and creative set is the nostalgic, old school joint “turn da lights off”. Featuring ’s mentor and savior, Missy Elliot, this track is the equivalent to a Rolls Royce – smooth, sophisticated and elegant. The honey rich breath-taking vocals are a pleasure to listen to, and the soft beat compliments these in every way.
Every track off this album would sit perfectly in an acoustic setting where could lace each track with her diverse range of lyrical content. The originality of such an artist is becoming rare these days, but is definitely someone who is going for longevity rather than mainstream appeal. Her smart, yet potent lyrics are exemplified on tracks such as Iceberg and sports, sex and food and not forgetting the unavoidable duet “could it be” with Rell.
Although this is not an album that will appeal to all, there is no denying the huge talent that is . Perfect harmonies, old school soul and innovative lyrical content will have you soul heads watering at the mouth. It was once said that God does not make a mess, well after hearing this album, I can rightly say that neither does . Music at it’s best – perfection has now been captured, and resides in this CD.
