Having recently left Roll Deep, Trim has been quick of the mark to release a solo offering to showcase what he can do without 13 other MC’s around him. But it seems that for someone who wants to prove themselves on their own merit he has gone down the dreaded avenue of trying to bring through members of his own clique (Bomb Squad) on several tunes and this doesn’t allow Trim to fully showcase his potential as an artist. Never one to forget an adversary he goes at foes; old and new such as fellow ex-Roll Deep member Syer B on ‘Rudely Interrupted’ and Lethal B on ‘War Report 1’, “I can’t hate Pow/ that was a hit/ even if the main verse was nicked off Godsgift”. There are some promising points of the CD; he is one of only a few of grime artists to have a fully grime mixtape which see tunes like the Mega-produced ‘Money Up Front’, ‘Liar Liar Part 1’ (which in the second verse he flips the script by telling some home truths indirectly by telling lies) and the insightful ‘Don’t Talk’ let Trim effortlessly project his cheeky and utterly honest perception of life as he sees it. But it is clear to see that this is somewhat of a rushed effort on Trims behalf; from the random chopped and screwed version of Roll Deep’s ‘When I’m Ere’ by Radioclit put right in the middle of the CD and tunes like ‘Wot. Part 1’ needing to be longer than one verse he has made some rookie mistakes on this offering. As the CD ends with, ‘I’m Not’, a preview of Soulfood Volume 2, one can only hope that he takes more time and effort on his next offering, a fluctuating start for Trim.
