T-E-R, to the, R-to the A, T-E-A to the M in the place. If you recognise the name, you’ll recognise the talent. The latest cut from the Terra Firma boys released as a double A-side with the Mancunian spitsmiths, Virus Syndicate on the AA. Coming together for the Food 4 Da Brain series’ 2nd Serving album, these two crews drop linguistic fire of the highest calibre that makes the hardest of heads start nodding in a lead off track that’s bound to spark instant interest with regards to the rest of the album.
Klashnekoff et al come with an upbeat, dirty bass, and almost DnB style of double time lyricalism in the form of Git Down (Remix), the original of which appeared on TF’s latest album, the Foundation. This track will get you doing exactly as the chorus demands, getting down, bouncing, and shaking your head in beat. Accompanied by the music slower, and far more sex friendly ballad of Love Contradiction, Skriblah, D.Ablo, Klash and Ruff Diamond show both sides of their musical coin within a 12 inch piece of limited edition printed plastic. Following the same recipe, the MRK1 produced Neva Argue sees the tempo remaining high while MC’s JSD, Goldfinga and Nika D lace it with their own unique brand of spitting. And just like TF, the Syndicate boys throw in a downbeat track to nestle in nicely. Albeit slightly overshadowed by the flipside, they hold their own whilst putting in an excellent showing.
If this sampler is anything to go by, then with the added benefit of exclusive tracks from artists such as Skinnyman, Manage, Kashmere and Supernovar, Food 4 Da Brain, 2nd Serving is a disc to look out for. Following an album format this time, as opposed to mixtape, HS Pro’s latest offering seems to have a much more structured and appealing composition to a broader audience than before. It’s not to be missed. ‘Git Down’ (RMX) & ‘Neva Argue’ is out now on a limited edition picture disc pressing, with Food 4 Da Brain, 2nd Serving following real soon. Rating: 4/5
