Full of Old Skool style lovey dovey soulful numbers, this is the ultimate kick back wid ya girl and get jiggy CD. Syleena’s voice contains hypnotic properties that enable her to capture the listener regardless of the lyrical topic. Considering her enchanting voice and the fact that the feature list is of the highest order (Common, R.Kelly, Fabolous, Twista, Anthony Hamilton, Kanye West (production)) this album is destined for most collections.
The standout tracks here are ‘Classic Lovesong’ feat Jermaine Dupri which is an absolute gem. ‘More ’feat Anthony Hamilton, a soulful summer number home made for cruising in the whip come June/July. ‘Apartment for Rent’ and ‘Another Relationship’, here Syleena displays her Soul authenticity in high volume, and has Joss Stone blushing behind a curtain somewhere. And for the toe tappers ‘Hypnotic’, an R.Kelly induced steppers number.
In the past Ms Johnson has been somewhat under rated and indeed under played, excluding of course her contribution to Kanye’s ‘All Falls Down’.
‘The Flesh’ should propel her into the limelight she fully deserves. There really aren’t many vocalists on a par with this lady; Syleena puts the Soul back into a commercially soulless market.
