Pretty Ricky surfaced as one of the major family music acts of 2005 thanks to the success of their debut album ‘Blue Stars’. Although boasting both huge and successful tracks such as ‘Grind with Me’, ‘Your Body’ and ‘Age ain’t nothing but a Number’ a lot of what the album represented was nothing but sweet teen romance. Now that a couple of years has passed, we see Pretty Ricky as a mature and more sophisticated group who have long term experiences to talk about.
Though age has come alongside time, certain lyrics such as “let’s talk about sex baby, let’s talk about you on top, let’s talk about me going down” makes you forget that the guys are only in young adulthood. That being said, ‘Late Night Special’ revolves around the groups sexual fantasies and pleasures which overall makes the album an awkward listening experience. Much of what Pretty Ricky has to say is more or less the same with some exceptions of ice cream, which later on refers back to sex again.
I don’t know what the band has been doing over the past couple of years, but writing lyrics and practicing their singing skills is definantly not one of them!
