The name Podgy figures is not one that you would associate with a soon to be hip hop genius, until now that is. With some big tracks on rotation on Channel U, it was only a matter of time before we would be treated to an instalment in the form of a mix-tape. It seems you are not a true player in hip-hop unless you have released a mix-tape these days so who are to stop podgy getting the figures. Trying to separate himself from the clichéd sound which is lacking innovation right now, the Acton born podgy gives us his perspective, through his lingo, his side of life, and to be fair…it works a treat…just. The thing that stands out about podgy is his ability to be bold as hell and this is ever so present on tracks such as the slightly self absorbed ‘im the best’ or ‘the dog cage’. However, in a world swamped with teenagers trying to be the next big thing, im not convinced that podgy will be cracking the whip just yet, but the hard work is still commendable. Rating: 3/5 – this is phat Release Date: 10th April 2006 Words By: John Busby
