Music Reviews Artist: NyTitle: Split Endz Volume Two ReviewLabel: True Tiger
Jay-z and Linkin Park both proved that cross-breeding different genres can manufacture a commercial sound, which fans of both genres can listen to. In this special unison between R&B singer Ny and various grime artists including Ghetto and JME, ‘Split Endz: Volume 2’ is a fusion of UK hip hop and grime, topped off with eclectic sounds of R&B and urban flavours.
In recent years, Ny has established herself as a sort after act, thanks to her splendid song writing abilities and angelic voice. But don’t get it twisted; Ny has a force of UK, street attitude behind her and if she’s singing over productions from the likes of Wiley and Terror Danjah, this personality conflict is vital; “street but sweet”.
In Real or Fake and What I see, Ny uses her tranquil voice to neutralise the grimey sounds of Ghetto, Professor Green and JME. Currently hitting off the album and onto the airwaves is Fire; a collaboration with MC Purple; where we see Ny talk about life on the streets and it’s affects on youth culture today. Although Split Endz is mainly R&B inspired, the resulting sound is very mellow and serene which overall makes the album a pleasurable listening experience.
