Music Reviews Artist: Nomadic PoetTitle: A Travellers TaleLabel: Red Sea EntertainmentWebsite: http://www.nomadicpoet.com
If 2007 is the year of the sequel on the silverscreen, it’s the year of the debut on the silver disc. With the latest of a long line of group artists going solo, former Planets member Nomadic Poet brings us A Travellers Tale.
Released on Red Sea Entertainments, the 17 track initial LP from the man who has repped UKHH’s muslim contingent for two decades doesn’t let up from the original outlook of the crew.
With production coming greatly from Texan producer gENsu dEAn, the self proclaimed greatest secret of HH, the beats are for the most on point, ‘It’s On’ and ‘Sunrise’ being the pick of the bunch for gENSu, with the Hasan Salaam keyed ‘Nothing Matters’ and J Zek ‘This Is For Music’ providing further aural pleasure at sporadic intervals.
Nomadic doesn’t shy away from deep and thoughtful lyrics, as ‘Nothing Matters’ shows, a track heftily condemning the actions of the US and those involved in the Iraq propaganda war, amongst other foreign policy f***-ups.
‘Thoro Borough’ is a nice little let up before delving into the release, Apollo’s bouncing backing track met with Poet’s bubbling lyricism with the stereotypical hood love helping, this time shouting out everything that makes Brent borough complete.
Taking on the standpoint of the much favoured writing implement, ‘Pen’ is a well thought out track about the power of a pen, whether it be to write lyrics or legislation, whilst the dark sounding tingle inducing Peeping Tom production creates an atmosphere that lets you know the words you’re hearing are serious.
‘Traveller’s Tale’ is not the kind of CD that should be confined to ambience whilst running the left wing on Pro Evo, this album demands, and respectfully deserves, full attention.
‘A Travellers Tale’ is out June 4th on Red Sea Entertainment.
