Music Reviews Artist: Nate JamesTitle: Kingdom FallsLabel: Absolute/Universal

Kingdom Falls, the sophomore effort from noted British R & B contender Nate James opens with the startling call to arms ‘Outta My Head’. Moreover from this point on a Jackson-esque, Motown-like template begins to formulate, with emphasis on big production, vocal hooks and catchy tunes. Furthermore despite the albums influence referencing moments, enough of Nate’s own signature sound clearly shines through as the album progresses. Which in turn culminates in countless memorable moments, such as the albums relentless ‘Choke’, jazzy ‘Wonderland’ and the album’s eponymous title track. Contemporary urban tastes seem more than catered for as the album progresses, indicated in tracks such as ’ Back To You’ and ’High Times’. However much like, say chocolate that is too rich or champagne that is too bubbly it seems at times that the album is somewhat overcooked. That is fifteen tracks to me, at times seems a tad too much, moreover before anyone attempts to tell me that this is de-rigueur for R&B albums this doesn’t necessary make it right. To compare and contrast, ’ Off The Wall’ contains some nine tracks, ’ Purple Rain’ an additional nine. Despite such concerns however when tracks like ’Just Say Yes’ underpin proceeding perhaps some justification for long running times seems valid. To conclude Nate James is a strong contender for the crown of British R&B, impressive production, passion and ambition clearly dominate proceedings. Additionally an impressive back-catalogue is beginning to take shape in said artist’s repertoire. Thus one awaits the future Nate James release’s with much anticipation
