While originality may not be a strong point
in the G Unit camp, straight-up gangsta club bumpers are, and Lloyd Banks does
not disappoint with this, the first single to be taken from his new album
‘Rotten Apple’. Eminem is on production
detail here and dutifully cranks out a slice of slickly-wrought moodiness that
marches determinedly underneath Banks’ verses while Fiddy drools lazily all
over the chorus. The real surprise for
aficionados of ‘real hip hop’ is that Lloyd Banks isn’t half bad on this track;
he rides the beat perfectly and displays some neat double and triple syllable
rhyming throughout the second verse. Lyrically, of course, he isn’t saying
anything of particular substance but then again, this is G Unit. They may only
do one thing, but they do it very well.
