Taken from Kelis's fourth album, 'Kelis Was Here' (a passionate window into her moods, tastes and emotions) is her new single the soulful and meditative 'Lil Star', which features Kelis singing about the time when she was in self-doubt, giving fans a look at her susceptible side.
Whilst taking time away from rapping about bossiness and strawberry flavoured milkshakes, Kelis comes back, sexy as ever for another round of ice cold grillz and in your face rapping, with new single ‘Lil Star’. Though can’t put my finger on it, something about this track is surprisingly different in comparison to her earlier hits. With a beat which makes the Coronation Street theme tune sound like a grime track, ‘Lil Star’ is very down-to-earth and mellow which quite surprisingly makes for delightful hearing. Whilst most artists strive to be inventive, Kelis on the other hand does it naturally in a relaxed manor, easily documented in ‘Lil Star’.
Kelis’s single lyrics and all, demonstrates that even marrying an ever dark and gruesome rap star like Naz can never hold you back in looking at the brighter side of things. The church choir type background singers present a soulful contact to the already melodious single which overall makes ‘Lil Star’ a pleasurable listening experience. You go girl!
