So two albums and a hubby later, this is where it's at
with New York
diva Kelis. Kelis Was Here, album number three for the lady who knows how to
‘bring all the boys to the yard', is a grand statement if ever there was any.
The message is this: she's a W.O.M.A.N and one who
knows her own mind. ‘This is my story'
she proclaims in Intro, "this is my mark". And for anyone who needs a reminder,
then Bossy, a declaration of her latest achievements to date (‘I'm the first
girl to scream on a track') should leave you in no doubt at all.
Although she's calmed down from considerably from
the ‘I hate you right now' attitude that got her noticed, she's not short of
sass. Appreciate Me is a gospel tinged
warning to hubby not to take her for granted, whilst I Don't Think So tells
blokes to think again if they think they can get into her pants.
And hey, because she's Kelis and therefore the boss, she can get help from a
few friends in high places. Black Eye Peas' Will. I. Am helms party track
Weekend, whilst Gnarl Barkley's Ceelo-Lo features on Lil Star.
