Kool Keith, renowned NYC hip-hopper, is back with another twisted cut under his Dr. Octagon moniker that has already been awarded coveted “Single of the Week” status from 6 Music’s Phill Jupitus and Radio One’s Mary-Anne Hobbs. Testament to Kool Keith’s determination to court controversy, this is another warped take on the hip hop genre, beginning as it does with a slow bassline and brassy stabs and Kool Keith begging “What are we gonna do when the aliens get here?!” Soon, the pace is picked up as an alien-related story unfolds. Organs wail in the background as the lyrics are delivered at warp speed alongside scratches, screams and bursts of applause. Equally impressive is Subfocus’ drum and bass monster of a remix, a fast ribcage-shaker with a rumbling bassline and enough breakdowns and spooky sirens to keep commercial drum and bass fans dancing well into the wee hours. Watch the Aliens promo video and listen to the track here. Rating: 3/5Label: CasualRelease date: 31 July Link: www.thereturnofdroctagon.com
