Available on Japanese import from Jan 28th (with the UK release on March 3rd) master turntablist DJ Krush is back with an audio-visual offering.
The DVD ‘Ko-No-Michi’ recounts Krush’s career from his landmark first album ‘Meiso’ back in ’95 to his 2006 world tour. It’s a musical montage of his live shows, special performances and studio sessions all inter-cut with interview clips.
Amongst the interviewees are Wild Style director Charlie Ahearn, who is on hand to big up the film’s influence on the DJ, Black Thought, who tries to explain the Zen approach and their multiple collaborations, and Robbie Shakespeare who extols the virtues of Krush’s creative genius.
Its all rather self congratulatory but in fairness Krush is someone who deserves his share of congratulations. He pops up throughout, though not speaking in English which makes watching slightly tough. But, it his scratching skills that we are all interested in and for the most part that’s what we get. My personal highlight are the shots of him in Jamaica working with Sly and Robbie making some rather indescribable sounds with the decks.
