A quick Google search revealed Color Climax to be “The First, the Biggest, the most Pornographic! . . Legendary Hardcore from Denmark for over 37 years” - sadly on closer inspection this turns out to be a description of the Danish porn outfit from which the Coventry funk n’ soul collective took their name rather than the band itself. ‘Plug it In’ is the album title though you hardly struggle to imagine what a porn movie of the same name might consist of.
‘Plug it In’ is 11 laid back funk cuts, some with an obvious Latin influence, of the sort that gets people like Giles Peterson excited. Its sleazy funk for hip hop heads who need a rest - 70s style. It features tight breaks, Hammond riffs and funky guitars. The Hammond skills are provided by Steve Ashby while production duties went to Paul T and guest vocalist Nana K being brought in for a couple of tracks.
‘Disque O Heights’ is the dance floor filler of the album with its dirty guitars, synthed up strings and disco beat while the title track provides a healthy dose of James Brown style funk complete with grunts and all.
