Every now and then you come across a track that no matter how hard you try to suppress it the urge to bop your head, tap your feet and (for those of you that can dance) shake your booty always wins over. Be warned this is one of those; not one to listen to at work, or even on the bus on your way to work.
‘Disque O Heights’ is wonderfully simplistic and incredibly funky. It is driven by a dirty dirty bass line and overlaid with synthetic strings, break heavy disco beats and the unmistakeable sounds of the bongos. Its updated Blaxploitation funk that, to put it in the words of another reviewer, makes you feel like a bad ass motherfucker.
The equally funky b-side ‘Pa Coco Solo’ opts for the Latin vibe and mixes Cuban sounding riffs with budget speaker blowing brass. An easy one to digest for those with a taste for hip-hop, funk, Latin or Brazilian sounds.
Color Climax were first snapped up by Breakin Bread in 2000 and have put out four critically acclaimed 7” singles since. They supported DJ Format on his recent UK tour and are invariably described as “The best thing to come out of Coventry since . . . [add appropriate term]”. As far as I’m concerned no appropriate term has yet been found.
‘Disque O Heights/Pa Coco Solo’ is released September 24th.
