Following last year’s collaboration with man-of-the-moment Kanye West, returns with new single ‘Gibberish’ ahead of the release of forthcoming album ‘Little Big Man’.
Though isn’t yet a household name, he has supported artists including Faith Evans , R. Kelly and Angie Stone and debut single ‘Broke’ made it into the top thirty back in 2002.
Gibberish is a funny little thing. The melody is catchy and Henry’s voice is silky smooth but the concept is nothing short of obscure. The lyrics concern Henry’s girlfriend, in particular that her parents don’t agree with their relationship. What follows is the suggestion that to overcome this matter, the two should talk gibberish, a language of their own which is constructed by adding the word ‘lag’ between the syllables of existing words. Accordingly, the chorus opens with: “I is ilagi / Want is walagant / Tolagoo belagee wilagith yulagoo.” Er, In-lag-ter-lag-est-lag-ing but an extreme gimmick if ever there was one.
I don’t doubt that is a great singer, alas this single really doesn’t adequately show off his talents. Dis-lag-a-point-lag-ing.
